We look forward to welcoming Sophie Hall to ULMaS in September 2020. She impressed us from the outset with her ambition to help solve the problem of plastics pollution in our oceans and has been a committed student in our outreach and online learning programme over the course of this year. After careful careers research she discovered that one of the best ways to address the serious issues that face us on the planet is to become a superb mathematical scientist. She won’t rest on her ambitions though and is already solving the problem locally: along with other students from Range High School, Sophie has rolled up her sleeves up and tackled the worsening state of our beaches, which has become particularly bad since lock-down has been eased.
